Don’t gag the salesperson…

Imagine for a second, you have a salesperson working for you.

And this salesperson could be selling anything.

It matters not for my little tale.

Now, before your salesperson goes out door to door to sell your product, you say to him…you can only say this (insert number) amount of words.

Or you might say…make sure to keep your pitch short.

In other words…you limit how many words your salesman can say to people.

He’s only allowed talk up to a ‘word limit’ that you have in mind.

What if he thinks of another cool reason people should buy?

No, sorry, you are only allowed so many words.

Sounds crazy, doesn’t it?

Well, this is what people are doing all the time in their sales messages.

They have got it into their heads that short copy outperforms longer copy.

WRONG!!

The research bears out the truth time and time again.

Longer copy… or those long scrolling web pages you think people never read…outperforms shorter copy all day, every day.

the longer you make it…the more time you can explain all the various reasons someone should buy from you.

There is one caveat though.

You need to be writing relevant words and engaging the reader.

If you don’t do that it doesn’t matter how long the ad is.

The bottom line is though…the more you tell the more you sell.

Don’t put a gagging order on your sales letter.
